Karen Wetherall, MS, RD, LDN, is the Dietetic Internship Director at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and has been the Sports Nutritionist for the Lady Vols for 10 years. She has also been the Wellness Coach for the Senior Executive MBA Program. Karen also maintains a private practice in Knoxville working with clients who have eating disorders and weight issues.
Karen received her B.S. from Marymount College of Fordham University, Tarrytown, NY, and her M.S. in Nutrition Education from Boston University.
Prior to her work in Knoxville, Karen was the Director for the Nutrition Program for the Cardiac Rehab and Lipid Clinics at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She also taught Nutrition at Harvard Medical School.
Karen is an active member of the Eating Disorder Coalition of Tennessee-Knox Area. She coordinates professional and community education programs and has provided hundreds of programs on body image and the prevention and treatment of eating disorders to professionals, as well as to college, high school and middle school students.
She is the 2009-2010 President of the Knoxville District Dietetic Association (KDDA) and was awarded the KDDA Outstanding Dietitian in 2009 and Outstanding Nutrition Educator in 2000.
Karen received national recognition as the 2007 SCAN Excellence in Practice Award recipient. SCAN is the largest dietetic practice group of the American Dietetic Association, representing more than 5,000 dietitians practicing in sports, cardiovascular disease and eating disorders.
Karen is married and has three step-daughters and two grandchildren. She enjoys staying active, cooking healthy food (including chocolate) and laughing with friends and family.
